I-Connect Student Peer Educators

I-Connect Student Peer Educators: We are hiring I-Connect Student Peer Educators for our Fall 2026 Workshops. I-Connect workshops are experiential trainings designed to help incoming students embrace differences, recognize shared experiences, and address injustice to build a welcoming and engaged campus community. This is an IN-PERSON  position, meaning the majority of workshops will be  classroom presentations, face-to-face with students.      

Job Duties

  • Promote practices of inclusion and belonging on our campus. 
  • Participate in the I-Connect facilitator training program, intimately familiarizing yourself with the program contents and developing a well-rounded understanding of core concepts. 
  • Facilitate I-Connect workshops for first-year students as a peer educator.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment in which all students feel safe to engage with the workshop contents. 
  • Provoke thoughtful dialogue among students as they interact with the course materials.
  • Remain calm and collected when handling disruptive behaviors and know when to reach out to a supervisor for aid in handling them. 
  • Respond to student questions during workshops and use them as an opportunity to dive into deeper discussions. 
  • Attend and participate in bi-weekly roundtable meetings, meet with supervisors to provide ongoing feedback and assessment of program outcomes.
  • Work efficiently and maintain the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, and other issues associated with workshop facilitation, as they arise. 

Details 

  • Must be an undergraduate student who has already completed I-Connect their first year on campus
  • Time Commitment: 6-9 hours a week (2-3 nights of work a week depending on student’s availability)
  • Availability to work in-person from 5:45 PM - 8:45 PM, Mondays through Thursdays (this is 1 work shift, made up of 2 workshops back-to-back)
  • Pay rate: $15.00/hour 
  • Start Date: Mandatory paid training in early September 2026, including a Saturday all-day training
  • Work sessions begin September 2026
  • End Date: November 2026 (Approximately 10 weeks of employment)

Social Justice Leadership Internship

 

2026-2027 Social Justice Leadership Internship: If you are an undergraduate Illinois student with a passion for supporting student success through workshops, trainings, social media, and would like to work to promote an inclusive campus community, this is the position for you! 

Job Duties 

  • Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment at DSJE physical, virtual, and satellite spaces for students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Design, develop, and implement new & existing programs on social justice and inclusion for undergraduate students.
  • Respond to campus requests for workshops on social justice and inclusion together with fellow Social Justice Leadership Interns.
  • Attend and support regular DSJE programming and workshops, especially Friday’s Conversation Café, which may include assisting with set up, and clean up, food service, and welcoming guests.
  • Coordinate, post, and distribute flyers, pamphlets, and bulletin board passive programming at key campus partners and community centers.
  • Plan, develop, and support content for social media and newsletter to improve student and community engagement with DSJE programs, events, and activities.
  • Record, track, and report, accurately and regularly, on analytics related to social media, marketing, and outreach efforts.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings, supervisory meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Must be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-5pm in the fall and spring semester, Fridays from 11:30am-1pm, and at least a couple hours of evening work every week.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation and shared spaces within the DSJE and satellite spaces, which may include sanitizing surfaces and discarding rubbish.
  • Other duties as assigned

Program Assistant

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This graduate level position is responsible for serving as a program assistant to Diversity and Social Justice Education in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The Graduate Hourly will assist in coordinating the I-Connect Diversity & Inclusion Experience workshops, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, training and supervising I-Connect Peer Educators, scheduling Peer Educators for workshops, assisting with practice sessions and regular roundtable meetings, maintaining accurate records of program work, communication with students, and assessment of the program, attending weekly team and supervisory meetings, and assisting with general social media outreach for the office.

Details 

  • Must be a graduate student
  • Time Commitment: 15-20 hours a week
  • Availability to work remotely and in-person from 5:45 PM - 8:45 PM in the fall semester, and an 8-hour day on a Saturday in September for in-person training of our peer educators
  • Availability to work during regular business hours in the spring semester
  • Pay rate: $20.00/hour (this is an hourly position, there is no tuition waver)
  • Start Date: August 2026
  • Must be able to work evenings and at least one Saturday training
  • End Date: May 2027

Essential Duties:  

Programming & Supervision (70%):  

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise I-Connect Peer Educators
  • Train I-Connect Peer Educators in best practices in facilitating inclusion workshops.
  • Schedule I-Connect Peer Educators for all I-Connect Diversity & Inclusion Experience workshops and manage requests for substitutions. This includes availability from 5:30 PM to 8:15 PM throughout the Fall semester.
  • Organize and host peer educator orientation, practice sessions, and regular roundtable meetings.  

Administrative (30%):  

  • Maintain accurate records as it relates to I-Connect facilitators (e.g., timesheets, trainings, facilitations).
  • Organize communications with participants, facilitators, and site coordinators for all I-Connect Diversity & Inclusion Experience Workshops.
  • Assist with the assessment of the I-Connect Diversity & Inclusion Experience program, including facilitator training and workshops.
  • Attend weekly team meeting and weekly 1:1 supervisory meeting with DSJE’s Associate Director.
  • Support management of social media (e.g., Instagram).
  • Other duties as assigned.  

 

Required Education and Experience  

Experience coordinating and facilitating workshops and training and supervising undergraduate student workers. Strong intercultural knowledge and awareness and familiarity with approaches to social justice education. Experience working with diverse student populations.  

To be eligible for this position, applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Illinois in Higher Education Administration (EOL or EPOL), Social Work, or related field in Social Sciences/Humanities.
